Tikka Cottage still holding its own

The Tikka Cottage in Hertford's Castle Street is one of the longer established Indian restaurants in the town. With other, arguably more 'fashionable' choices available, it's easy to be forget that this is one of the best in town and beyond.

I hadn't called in here for some considerable time and I seemed to recall that the menu was fairly 'traditional', with few unusual dishes available. Therefore, I was pleasantly surprised to find some different choices such as Mishti Kudo which combines Chicken or Lamb with Sweet Pumpkin and Machli - a fish curry with a traditional Bengalese sauce.

Don't worry though - all your old favourites are here and despite wanting to try more adventurous dishes when I visit an Indian restaurant, there are times when only a Chicken Tikka Masala will do! For the purpose of reviewing a restaurant, there are possibly better choices, but I just succumbed. It was perfect - although I've never had a bad version of the UK's favorite dish - this was excellent - tender chicken and rich creamy sauce.

Service is quick and friendly and the Tikka Cottage always has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere desite the tables being close together in a relatively small area inside.

My bill came to a shade under £15.00 with the compulsory pint of lager. This is probably slightly below average for a Hertford Indian restaurant and great value for money.

Don't forget the Tikka Cottage holds a banquet night every Tuesday and weekly Sunday buffets, both at set prices. Do try and call in soon!
