Fine Dining and Unequalled Service at The Gables

It's surprising just how many of our favourite restaurants are closed at lunchtimes so it's always a bonus to find one that is open at all times of the day. We arrived at The Gables on a Thursday lunchtime and took our seats. There was just one other party dining at this spacious and comfortable restaurant, however we know that it can get busy at all times of the day, so booking is always advisable.

We were greeted immediately and fresh rolls and olives were brought out straight away. Service was wonderful and attentive from start to finish here - sincerely friendly and the sort that adds to your overall experience.

The menu is almost as good to read as the dishes are to eat. Starters include Cornetti Misti, which are smoked salmon cones with prawns and crab and Capesante Iberico - large scallops with bacon, butter, parsley and garlic.

The main course menu is split into sections with pasta separated from meat dishes. Again the menu is just nice to read with dishes such as Breast of Duck with Mango Salsa and Veal Escalope with Lime and Walnut Sauce. Prices shown reflect the fact that this is a restaurant where you would go every now and again, maybe for a special occasion, but the quality does give value for money.

For our starter dishes we chose Lobster, artichoke and sun dried tomato salad with capers & chives and
King prawns sautéed in garlic, butter & parsley. For our main courses we opted for Penne Putanesca and a truly wonderful Beef Stroganoff - maybe not the obvious choice for an Italian restaurant but we were delighted with it.

All dishes were superb - the freshness of the flavours really come over in everything. Just writing this makes us want to jump in the car and head back here. We really can't recommend The Gables highly enough - call in soon!
