A Feast at The East

A Feast at The East

We called in at The East in Stanborough on a Thursday lunchtime. Formally a large pub, it is now a large oriental restaurant serving a range of cuisines. The East also has a branch in Elstree.

The restaurant was vast but encouragingly quite busy despite a deceptively empty car park and, although we hadn’t booked, we were immediately shown to a table. The menu is very extensive with some unusual dishes alongside some of the more standard fayre that you might expect from a restaurant of this kind.

Starter courses include Steamed Scallops with a choice of sauces at £4.20, Bang Bang Chicken at £4.50 or Grilled Meat Dumplings at £4.90. Main courses include Gan Shaw Fish at £9.50, Cashew Nut King Prawns at £9.30 and Cantonese Roast Duck at £10.50.

We ordered Dim Sum and Thai Fishcakes followed by XO Prawns with Asparagus and Sizzling Beef. Everything was superb; cooked to perfection and nicely presented. Size of portions was more than adequate and service was very good too.

The highlight of our visit however had to be the desserts. We ordered Toffee Banana and Toffee Apple and these most humble of dishes were turned into works of art, beautifully presented and decorated with fruit and icing sugar. They tasted superb as well.

The East comes highly recommended by ourselves so do try it soon!
