Galley Hall Hailey
You could argue that there are two types of ‘gastropub’. The one that provides slightly fancier restaurant style dishes and the other that does classic pub food of extremely high quality. The Galley Hall falls in to the latter category.
Despite some good competition locally. the Galley Hall just seems to get busier and busier. We called in today on a warm Monday lunchtime. There is a large decked patio area which we are fairly certain is new. The smell of fresh creosote seemed to back up our theory. The area had certainly attracted most of today's customers - in fact, the restaurant area was empty. However, on most days seating space is hard to come by so it is advisable to book where possible.
The Galley Hall retains a comfortable bar area and there is a wide choice of drinks available. 4 real ales are generally always available and today these included London Pride, White Horse Village Idiot and Sharps Doom Bar. I haven't sampled the wine list but I am told that this is extensive and of good quality.
There are two separate menus - one for the bar and one for the restaurant. Arguably the restaurant menu is a bigger version of the one from the bar. The specials board was quite indicative of the type of dishes you may find in either - these included Chicken Stroganoff, Beef in Ginger and Sweet Thai Chicken.
Today, from the bar menu we chose Ham Egg and Chips and a Bacon Cheese Burger. We feel that there will always be a market for this type of food as long as it's done well. This was excellent - even the presentation of these humble dishes was perfect. in fact we couldn't fault it. We call into the Galley Hall a lot and it seems to cater for everyone including families and large parties.
Service is efficient if not over-friendly and it retains that comfortable feeling of a welcoming country pub.
Our bill including a pint of London Pride and a J20 came to a shade over £20.00
