Our Lucky Day?

Our Lucky Day?

A review of this pub that we have seen elsewhere suggests that it has moved away from being a gastropub and back to a more traditional village local. As we had a dreadful meal there under the previous tenants, (details of which aren't fair to go into now), we took these 'gastropub' coments with a huge pinch of Andrews Liver Salts.

It's clearly always best to approach a review with an open mind but it is difficult to forget past experiences. First impressions today were, to be honest, not favourable. We arrived at noon on a Friday lunchtime in mid July to find the car park gates locked. Subsequently we entered through the front only to have the door of the dining area closed in our faces by a member of staff.

We then meandered into the bar and were given profuse apologies for the day's late opening by the very friendly landlady. From that point, thankfully, we had a pleasant lunch and past experiences were forgotten.

There were two ales to choose from - Greene King IPA and Fullers London Pride. The Pride was in good condition and was an excellent choice. There was only one white wine available by the glass - a French number which was recommended and again, proved to be a good selection - crisp, fruity and easy to drink.

There is a small bar menu and this was one of those occasions where we made our choice at the bar so it is difficult to relate all the dishes to you - they do seem to be slightly more enterprising - ( a very nice looking risotto dish arrived at the next table), so maybe the foodies will be well catered for here after all.

We chose an Egg Mayonnaise Baguette and a Chicken Baguette with Tomato and Aioli. There is a further choice of baguettes all priced at £4.50.

Food arrived in good time and it was fine - good quantities - fresh tasting ingredients and a nice side salad.

Service continued to be friendly and unhurried. This was a relaxing place where we felt that we could sit and chat all day. The pub also has a pleasant garden for warm days.

So in conclusion we thoroughly enjoyed our experience and look forward to returning soon. However, we never did find out why it was called The Rabbit's Foot!
